Since 1994, Nu Gamma Psi Fraternity INC. has welcomed strong-willed and intelligent members into our Social Fraternity. Founded by a group of young and courageous individuals who took a leap of faith to form this organization, our hope is to keep their legacy alive for generations to come.
We encourage intellectual growth and success by offering alumni networking opportunities and a variety of events throughout the year, which encourage bonding between members and help create a foundation of lasting friendships.
HISTORY OF GAMMA
The Background
The official history and conception of this afro centric organization is the story of young men who wanted to take the bond they shared in Plymouth, North Carolina, to college with them. It is a story of struggle as well as determination. Nu Gamma Psi fraternity is a fraternity that strives to instill the principles of hard work and determination in young African American men across Afro Centric communities and universities. Through it's many year existence Nu Gamma Psi Fraternity has encoutered many trials and tribulations. Through it all the brothers have managed to bring to the Afro centric community a fraternity that is about the unrelenting determination to succeed!!!!!In 1999 Adrian White, Lejohn Purkett, William Wynn, and Gary Whitley decided to make some changes in their local community brotherhood organization. Originally named Sigma Chi, founded by seven young boys (four of which are already named), Sigma Chi was a local brotherhood to help keep young men out of trouble in the town of Plymouth, North Carolina.However, as the years past, and the brothers of Sigma Chi wanted to make some serious changes to their fraternity, everybody was not in agreement with the decision to make the changes. Therefore, with Adrian White, Lejohn Purkett, William Wynn and Gary Whitley as the surviving founders, would take on the responsibility of the Fraternity. The four Founders would call a meeting to discuss the colors, mascot, mottos, shield, and name of their fraternity, That name was NU GAMMA PSI. Nu Gamma Psi Fraternity is a fraternity based on the Godly principles of Love, Community Service, Brotherhood, Leadership, and Courage. It is currently in the midst of growing to become one of the greatest African-American, Egyptian-letter brotherhoods. The main motto of The Nu Gamma Psi Fraternity is one that many people marvel over. We, the brothers of Nu Gamma Psi Fraternity ask you to ponder on it as well: "It takes a Man to pledge a fraternity; it takes a Stronger, More Courageous man to build one!"
